Displays

Whether you're highlighting parts of your collection or looking for a way to engage patrons, displays can be a fun, colorful, and interactive opportunity.

Rows of shelved books can be very intimidating, and if you're not sure what you're looking for, all of the spines begin to look alike!
Front-facing books stand apart from the crowd, catching browsers' eye and encouraging them to pick up and flip through the books.

Displays are a way to take this concept and make it even more appealing.
When you group books together, linked by a common theme or occasion, the books help each other get noticed, too,
making displays an effective way to highlight often-overlooked titles.

Below are some sample displays. What you can create will vary depending on your available space and the books you are looking to feature.
Don't be afraid to incorporate other materials, too: decorations, activity bags, DVDs, CDs, other items in the collection.
Post a sign to bring the theme together and add color and design.

The only limits are your space, your collection, and your imagination.
You can highlight anything, from an upcoming holiday to hidden gems to staff favorites and more.
You can even invite patrons to create a display featuring their favorite books or topic!

Another option, as you're creating your display spaces, is to put together an interactive display or board.
How can you get your patrons involved?

Below is one example of an interactive space, in which patrons are invited to add pictures or words to the board, which changes seasonally.
